Septic tank: a treatment component
A septic tank provides settling and separation as part of a treatment-and-dispersal system. Ask for the capacity, compartment arrangement, openings and accessories specified for that system.

A chamber used for pumping is selected together with its pump, controls and the rest of the system design. The container alone does not establish the pumping performance. Ask the designer to identify the tank or chamber model and the equipment that belongs with it.
Holding tank: storage for removal
A holding tank stores sewage for removal rather than relying on an on-site dispersal field. Northern Health uses a permit process and requires an accepted installation record before use. Local rules can also restrict holding tanks; eligibility is not established by finding a tank in a catalog.

A catalog description such as “pump-out tank” does not prove that the model is approved for your proposed installation. Put the intended duty, exact drawing and approval question in front of the authorized person and relevant authority before ordering.
