Ask for the existing file
Request the as-built plan, certification, maintenance instructions, service history and available equipment manuals from the seller. Northern Health offers a sewerage-system records search, but it may have no requested information on file. Check current forms and fees directly.

- Will the number of occupants or the building’s use change?
- Are you planning an addition, suite, shop, driveway or landscaping?
- Do the documents locate the entire system and the well?
- Can the components be maintained with the proposed layout?
- What work and follow-up should be budgeted based on the assessment?
Include the water supply
Well water can look and taste normal while containing contaminants. Use current HealthLinkBC and Northern Health guidance to arrange appropriate testing, rather than relying on appearance.
