First, confirm how the parcel is serviced
Find the civic address and parcel identifier (PID). Check the official property map, then ask the relevant utility or local authority whether the property is served by a community system. A regional postal address or a nearby sewer does not settle that question.
Choose the right authorized person
BC’s regulation defines who may undertake sewerage-system work. A Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner (ROWP) has specific endorsements; check the current register and that the person’s scope fits the proposed work. The qualifications needed depend on the system and task.

For applicable sewerage-system construction and significant alterations, plans are filed before work and certification follows completion. This is different from a holding-tank permit. Ask your authorized person and Northern Health what applies to the proposed work; a filing is not a general design approval.

- Bring the PID, a property plan and any existing system documents.
- Describe the building’s intended use and planned changes.
- Mark known wells, watercourses, buildings and existing services on the records.
- Ask who handles assessment, design, installation, certification and maintenance.
- Ask when a component list can be issued for pricing.
Then ask for the materials
Send Pay-N-Save the drawing references, quantities, job location and timeline. Ask which accessories are included and which are separate. Keep site design, construction work and supply pricing as clearly assigned parts of the project.
Your preparation checklist.
